So I decided I’m not going to go in any particular order, I’m just going to tell stories as they come up. Today’s topic: Tiny House Living. My RV is 24.5′ long and 7.5′ wide with the slides in. I have a dinette slide when you walk in (which I remodeled to house my home office and Morgan’s tank!) and I have a bed slide in the back. When all is said and done, I have 34 square feet of space to walk in. Trust me, I just did the math. Twice.
I’m currently in Sun Outdoors’ newest campground on Chincoteague Island, VA. They opened on Thursday, and I arrived on Saturday. It’s a beautiful establishment, located on the eastern shore of the Chincoteague Bay, Virginia. The weather was perfect the first few days, but we had a vicious storm roll in last night. I was excited, because it’s always nice to be “holed up” for a bit. I work full time from the camper, so rain during the day makes for a very relaxing day.
However, once my work day is over, 34 square feet becomes very…..small. Luckily for me, I was prepared. First I organized and cleaned. That took approximately 5 1/2 minutes. Then, I did the dishes, dried them and put them away. Again, another 5 minutes at best. I filled the animals food bowls, tidied up their area, made the bed, and watered the plants (yes, I bring my half dead house plants with me!) So I’m now 15 minutes into my afternoon/evening and I’ve run out of things to do.
At this point, Kai REALLY wants to go out. He’s been such a good boy all day. He took turns napping on the bed and in the only spot on the floor large enough where he could spread out. Fun fact: He HATES baths/showers, but LOVES the rain. Super fun. So I decide to make the best of things. I pour myself a glass of wine, throw on my poncho and head out into the storm.
Kai ran around like an un-caged monkey for almost an hour. He was truly living his best life. I let him roll in mud, eat dirt, splash in puddles, do whatever his little clown brain wanted to. After all, it didn’t matter what he did at this point, he was going to need a bath anyway….
So we get back to the camper, I shower him in a WARM, outdoor shower (while he screams abuse) bring him inside, dry him off, wrap him in his favorite monster robe and give him his fave chicken jerky treat.
Now it’s time to get down to business. I have to wash some items that were left outside and are no longer recognizable. But in order to do that, I have to do dishes again, because they’re in the sink I need to use. But in order to do that, I have to clean off the counter again so that I can move the clean dishes to the counter. So I do all that, in reverse order, and clean everything.
Now, things need to dry. I have towels hanging in the shower to dry, but now I have a tablecloth, a flag, and a poor, forgotten pair of leggings that also need to dry. I am able to finagle a place for everything to dry, and I settle in for the evening.
Settle in. Where to settle in? I only have one chair, and it’s covered in items that are trying to dry. Kai can’t go to bed yet because he’s a husky and it takes him 12 hours to dry. So I do the only thing a girl can do: Pour the rest of the wine into my glass, turn on some good tunes, and sit on the toilet until its time for bed……
Can’t wait for the sun to come back out!!
